Sanctuary redefined from "welcome" to "get lost"
A sea of Arizona sand is fine for illegal immigrants, but not a millionaire island off Massachusetts.
PHOENIX — I once spent a night in a motel in Gila Bend, Ariz., while covering a story about a mysterious death as a part-time writer for Time magazine. I arrived in the late afternoon from Phoenix without a reservation, so I had to take what I got, which was a room with some roaches on the walls.
Although my longtime home of Phoenix is hardly more than an hour’s drive northeast of Gila Bend, I don’t recall spending another night there, before or since. Just didn’t have a reason to.
Decades later, Gila Bend was in the news in the summer of 2021 when, under the new administration of Joe Biden, the Border Patrol simply began dropping illegal immigrants off there for the little desert town to take care of, although it didn’t have the resources.
The Border Patrol was very obedient at following the orders of Biden, who broke the law every time he induced illegal immigrants into the U.S., which was every single day.
Gila Bend is about 81 miles north of the international line with Mexico by driving along Arizona 85 to the border town of Lukeville, Ariz.
I’ve never spent a night on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., or even set foot there. The closest I got was on a few brief trips to Boston. The Vineyard is nearly 2,700 miles northeast of Phoenix.
From what I hear, there probably aren’t any roaches — or at least they don’t live long — on the walls on that island of Democrat-voting millionaires and billionaires, which loves illegal immigrants and considers itself a sanctuary for them, as long as they don’t show up to take advantage of this proffered benevolence.
That’s like being offered endless meals at the tony brunch, as long as you don’t try to put any food on your plate. Nor even a sip of mimosa.
Being a sanctuary for those you turn away doesn’t compute. Being a left-wing Democrat is more about policies than principles anyway. You know what you want, so whatever gets you there is what works. What works is then described as principles.
